Service Avenue Bridge in Sharon, Mercer County Closed
Lane Restrictions in Place on Route 62
Oil City, PA – The bridge that carries Service Avenue over Pine Run in the City of Sharon, Mercer County is closed for replacement.
A detour is posted using Plum Street, Spencer Avenue, Leslie Street, Stambaugh Avenue, and Route 62. It is expected to be in place for six months.
In connection with the project, drainage work is being done at the intersection of Service Avenue and Route 62 (East Connelly Boulevard). Drivers should be alert for lane restrictions on Route 62 in connection with the work.

PennDOT Announces Mercer County Maintenance Schedule
Oil City, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced the following maintenance operations scheduled for the week of July 27, 2026, for roads maintained by the department in Mercer County.
Pipe repairs on Hendersonville Road (Route 2021) in Worth Township and Airport Road (Route 2015) in Fairview Township will result in daytime closures to through traffic. Detours will be posted.
PennDOT crews at facilities throughout District 1, which includes Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties, complete a large scope of work on more than 3,600 miles of road throughout the year to help provide an efficient transportation system. All work is weather dependent.

Fill dirt left over from PennDOT maintenance operations may be available to property owners who request the material, have accessible property near work areas, and submit a completed M-666 packet.

Paving Project to Start Next Month on Interstate 79 in Mercer County
Oil City, PA – A $1.5 million project to repair the centerline joint on Interstate 79 in Lake, New Vernon, and Deer Creek townships, Mercer County is scheduled to start on August 3, 2026.
The project includes asphalt base repairs, paving, and updated highway paint lines in both the northbound and southbound lanes from mile marker 126 to mile marker 136.
Construction is expected to begin August 3, 2026, weather permitting, and is expected to be completed by October 2026.
Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions and anticipate travel delays during active work hours.
The contractor is Lindy Paving of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost is $1,508,036.50, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

Route 318 Under I-80 to be Closed for Demolition Work
Oil City, PA – There will be nighttime closures on Route 318 in Shenango Township, Mercer County starting early next month.
The closures are expected to be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily between Stefahak Drive to Frampton Road to allow for the removal of the bridge carrying Interstate 80 westbound. Works is expected to start August 3, 2026, and be completed in seven days.
A temporary traffic signal system has been installed to control traffic during times when the closure is not in effect. The signal will remain until replacement work on the bridge is complete.
Work on the bridge is part of the $116 million I-80 Reconstruction Project from mile marker 0 to mile marker 5. Read more about the project online at www.pa.gov/DOTDistrict1.

Paving to Get Underway on Route 58 in Mercer County
Oil City, PA – Milling and paving on Route 58 from George Junior Road in Pine Township to Campbell Drive in Grove City Borough will begin August 3, 2026.
Drivers should be alert for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions, and traffic controlled by flaggers during daylight hours. Drivers should anticipate travel delays during active work hours.
The work is part of a project to improve 9.7 miles of Route 58 (Main Street) from the intersection with Route 19 in Mercer Borough to the intersection with Campbell Drive in Grove City.
The contractor is Shields Asphalt Paving Inc of Valencia, PA. The contract cost is $4,463,353.85, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

Northwest Greenways Block Grant Funding
The Leary Firefighters Foundation considers grant requests for training, equipment, and technology for fire departments in the US. Grants are not awarded to individuals.
The Jeremiah Lucey Grant Program supports paid and volunteer departments throughout the country.
The goal is to enhance the professional development of fire departments, provide the best equipment to help keep firefighters and the communities they serve safe, and to ensure that fire departments update along with technological advances.
Grant sizes vary but typically range from $5,000 to $25,000; occasionally the Foundation makes larger grants.
