County Facts

• Mercer County = 672 square miles in area

• Mercer County is in the glaciated Pittsburgh plateau physiographic province.

• Major watersheds are the Shenango River, Sandy Creek, French Creek
  and Wolf Creek.

• Inventory work was done during the summers of 2001 and 2002.

Review of Findings

• 121 total sites were surveyed.

• 23 community types documented in the county- 8 of which were recognized at the state or county level

• 40 locations for species of special concern including 19 new locations that were found during the inventory.

• Eight plant species new to Mercer County were found

• 32 animal species of special concern were found in the county.

• 25 plant species of special concern were found in the county.
